(74) Editorial - May 2018

Demise of Mr. TMG Nambisan. Retd officer of Survey of india in the last week of April 18 saddened many. He was a highly respected and admired person. He wrote an autobiographical book full of anecdotes and informative material about Survey of India and other experiences. A review on this was published in GIS India April 2014 issue. Another anecdote article published in Sep 2016 issue of GIS India is included in this issue.

Executive summary of Presentation of Prof. I V MURALIKRISHNA on National Survey Day on 10 April 2018 at Institution of Engineers, Hyderabad on application of GST for Public Health Data Management is included in this issue. This assumes importance in the context of very scarce data on this subject in India.

Two interesting and informative images are given in this issue

  1. Cartosat image

  2. Earth as seen from Saturn (A small white dot )

Read about International Suveyors week and Earth Day on 21June

Also think about how people are trying to develop applications for the society. Two articles on the use of mobile phone data will be of interest.
